Not Quite Sober
official stats and write-up for
Week 12
April 25, 2002
First, I won't keep you in suspense: for the very
first time all year, we won EVERY SINGLE GAME! Combined with the
series, that gives us 7 points for the week, which could easily propel us
into the top 5 or 6 teams. We'll see about that.
With Jason
back from his trip to Sweden, complete with his fancy euro money, and with
Nick
deciding to join us this week, we once again had a complete team.
The team chemistry made a return appearance, with every member giving
everything they had on every shot. This proved crucial, as you will
soon find out.
Jake struggled in the first game, missing several
single-pin spare attempts. Jason
more than made up for Jake's 148, however, by rolling a 164, which when
combined with Nick's
above-average 160 and Christina's
140 gave us plenty of pins for the win.
During game two, Nick
caught fire and bowled a 159, while Jake picked his game up and came
through with a 194. Jason,
in an effort to confuse both physicists and professional bowlers alike,
continued to score well using his drop-pull method of bowling, finishing
with a 143. Christina,
in a beautiful display of pre-calculated mayhem, bowled well enough so
that, as a team, we beat the other team by exactly one pin. I
haven't seen math skills like that since the Norwalk High School
"Home Room Derby" championships of 1988.
The thought ran through my head: "Can we win every
game this week? Can we take the pressure?" Obviously, as
I stated above, the answer to both of those questions is
"yes". Nonetheless, the pressure was on during game
three. Jake fell back into the bad luck hole, which combined with
the new "crappy spare shot" technique he's been working on, and
finished with another 148. Jason,
however, knocked his
game up a notch and came back with another game in
the 160s, bringing his 3-game total for the night to a season-best
470. Nick
finished the night with his third above-average game, missing out on
his best series by only 6 pins. Christina
decided to change strategies this game, and bowled with the intent of
humiliation instead of making the game close. Her 155 in the final
game was a key factor in our 50 pin victory. Also key was a guy on
the other team bowling an 88.
