Not Quite Sober

official stats and write-up for

Week 2

February 14, 2002

After coming off a strong start like last week, we knew it couldn't last long.  Jason and I both purchased new bowling balls, which are drilled with the fingertip-style grip.  I didn't get my ball until Wednesday, so I really didn't have a chance to get used to the new style, and my scores certainly reflect a drastic change in approach.  Adding to my woes, I apparently grew an extra 7 inches, because I fouled no less than SIX times over the course of 3 games.  Clearly, I need to reevaluate my whole attitude, and strive to be more consistent and focused.  Jason, on the other hand, took team dedication to a whole new level, bowling not 10, not 20, but TWENTY-ONE practice games throughout the week, including a stretch of 12 continuous games this past Tuesday.  Unfortunately, his dedication to perfection turned into a curse, as his battered and blistered thumb caused more pain than he could comfortably bowl through, and his scores suffered the consequences.

Nick probably had the most on his mind that evening, as it was both Valentine's day AND his fiancé's birthday.  Choosing to bowl on either of those nights can get you into trouble, and I heard he really got an earful when he got home that night.  It's also unfortunate that most of his belongings were dumped in the front lawn when he got home, but I really think he made the right choice.

We also got some great footage of this night - be warned of the following two points before downloading this movie:

  1. It is about 13 megabytes.  It's on a fast server, but expect a good download if you're using dialup

  2. It is encoded in Windows Media Format.  This may or may not work on a Mac.  If someone knows the answer to this, email me.
