Not Quite Sober
official stats and write-up for
Week 3
February 21, 2002
After a disappointing week
2, we, as a team, rethought our bowling strategy. It was decided
that bowling 12 games in a row is bad, and we had to intervene numerous
times when Jason
decided he wanted to go practice. A Monday-night
practice outing proved to be very successful, as we all were able to get
some good practice games in, without butchering our thumbs. On
Wednesday night, we went out for a power-dinner; the thought was that if a
big meal of pasta is good for long-distance runners, then surely an outing
at Hooters would be
just what the team needed to perform at maximum efficiency the next
night. In addition to being able to eat delicious overpriced wings,
it's also Trivia Night on Wednesdays, so this was another way we could
work as a team, before the big game. Unfortunately, things didn't
work out as planned.
Thursday morning, we learned that Nick
was up for most of
the night with a severe case of the most painful kind of
indigestion. He believes that the breading on the wings was his
downfall, though Jason
and I suffered no such consequences.
Nonetheless, he has sworn off the "regular" Hooters wings, and
vowed to order only the "naked" style. As a connoisseur of
all things chicken-wing, I will easily be able to make the switch, for the
team. Jason, however, flat-out refuses to eat the non-breaded wings,
claiming you don't get as good of a value. I think it's funny that
the guy that drives the Audi
TT is complaining about value, but that's a different story altogether.
Be sure to check back in the following weeks to see if the naked/breaded
wing controversy has created any ill feelings between team members.
Sadly, the sleeplessness of the previous night combined
with a hectic day at work contributed to Nick's worst game since his age
was in single-digits. I, however, was well-rested and
stress-free, which helped me bowl a season-high 205. Jason
also
bowled his best game of the season (so far...), with a 161 in the 2nd
game, along with a pair of turkeys for the night.
Christina, as usual, bowled consistently and quietly,
preventing me from remembering anything noteworthy, so once again, she's
barely mentioned.
As you can see below, we lost all 3 games, plus the
series. On the lighter side, a guy on the other team (Scott) had 151
in the 9th frame. The highest game he had bowled previously was a
152. After one of his teammates commented on that fact (never a good
idea), another *assured* him that he "definitely will beat
it." As you may have guessed, poor Scott rolled 2 consecutive
gutter-balls to end the game, leaving him with a 151. Fortunately,
it was the final game of the evening, because there was quite a bit of
equipment-kicking, cursing, and other such poor-sportsmanship, which is
never fun for anybody.
