Not Quite Sober

official stats and write-up for

Week 6

March 14, 2002

We won a few this week!

Upon arriving to the bowling alley, I think we all sensed a slight, barely perceptible change in the atmosphere.  It was very subtle, like a springtime rain.  Or, more accurately, like a really stale smoky greasy rain.  Whatever it was, it was slightly different- of that I am certain.  We knew we were in for a special week...

And special it was!

The first game, everybody bowled relatively well.  Jake, Nick, and Christina all bowled better than their averages, while Jason was only 10 pins under with a 119.  This turned out to be more than enough to defeat the opposing team "Cold Slither" in the first game.

Game 2 began well enough, but quickly deteriorated into a contest to see who could miss the head-pin the most.  During this game, Jason's work phone rang, and it was learned that there were many problems happening at work.  Since he's the manager of our department, he *had* to take the call.  Displaying true team-spirit, however, he would put them on hold when it was his turn to bowl.  For that, he gets a salute, and the first-ever "team dedication" award!  Christina bowled her best game of the year (so far - a 158), but it wasn't enough to ward off Jake's 46-under average 116, and we lost this game.

Game three was plagued by Jason's work-related call, with about 30% of his frames bowled while talking on the phone.   This helped create a "yuppie-business-guy" atmosphere not normally associated with bowling.  The game started out pretty well for him, picking up a 5-10 split, much to the disinterest of the people with whom he was engaged in the conference call.  Sadly, he couldn't keep this high-quality mentality, and by the end, there was much swearing and he wound up having to go back into the office after bowling for a second week in a row.  This time, he was there until after 8 AM.

After Christina's performance during game 2, I (Jake) congratulated her on her new high-game "SO FAR", stating that I believed that she would beat it in our third and final game of the night.  Not to toot my own horn, but I should start calling myself Jakestradamus, because I CAN PREDICT THE FUTURE!  Christina cranked out a 61-over-average 184, giving her the top score and series of the night!  Congratulations on a job well-done!

Nick bowled well tonight as well, but not so good that he gets more than a passing mention.  Of note is his switch back to what he calls the "Coke Classic" style of bowling, where he rolls the ball from left to right into the 1-2 pocket.  It had good results, and he averaged 130 pins per game, up from 92 and 115 for the previous two weeks that he bowled.

An honorable mention goes the the Motorola hands-free headset, for
making the dream
of a phone and bowling combination
a reality!
